Linking and Memory Improvement Techniques

Written by Announcement Author on Friday, November 13th, 2009 in Psychology and Personal Development.

There are some great memory improvement techniques you can learn. Techniques that will help you in turning numbers into words, remembering shopping lists and memorizing names. Let’s discuss how to memorize a list of grocery items. We will use 4 items only but you will see the size of the list does not matter.

What we do in memory techniques is to take something we already know and associate it with something we want to remember. So we connect the 2 together or link them together. We can use what is called the “Roman Room” to link items together so we can bring them up in our mind later on.

The reason this works is because there are certain things you will not forget. You know where you live. You know how your house looks and what rooms there are. Assume that you are going to buy the following items from the store:

Bananas

Soap

Bread

Paper Towels

Pick any room in your house or apartment. Now we will associate the items in the list with something in the room you will choose. Imagine you walk into your living room and this is what you see:

Book Shelf

Table

TV

Couch

These are the first 4 things you see in sequence when you enter your living room. Take the items you want to remember on your shopping list and place them with one of the items in your living room or replace the item in your room with one from the list.

This is what you might see in your mind:

You walk into your living room and Bananas are shooting out of your Book Shelf. Some Bananas fall onto your Table and are skating on top of Soap. A bar of Soap slides off the Table and goes toward the TV, but the TV is not there. Instead there is a giant loaf of Bread. The giant Bread eats the Soap but throws it up all over your Couch. Out of your Couch come arms and they are holding Paper Towels and it starts to clean the mess on itself with the Paper Towels.

Daniel had been engaging in excessive drinking behavior since her sophomore year in college. Now, ten years later, she drank more than ever. One Sunday night when she wasn’t feeling all that well, Daniel decided to stay home, lighten up, and watch television.

While searching for a program to watch that would capture her interest, she at once became captivated with a special program about young adult and adolescent drinking problems.

When Typical Alcohol Addiction Signs and Symptoms are Manifested by Alcohol Addicted Individuals

The speaker articulated the difference between alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency and then discussed the topic of alcohol dependency symptoms and alcoholism warning signs. When the spokesperson discussed a person’s alcoholic behavior and some of the more common alcohol dependency signs and symptoms that alcohol dependent people display, Daniel got quite disturbed because it virtually seemed as if the narrator was talking explicitly to her.

After watching the TV special, Daniel promised herself that she would telephone her health care professional the next workday and make an appointment to discuss her drinking circumstance.

When the next workday arrived, true to her word, Daniel called her health care provider and made an appointment. In the meantime, she went on the web and did a search for alcoholic symptoms. Especially difficult were the following signs or symptoms: sneaking a couple of drinks before social activities, making excuses to drink at almost every chance, sleep issues, important work-related and relationship problems, and increasing anxiety.

Simply stated, due to the fact that Daniel exhibited all of these signs she went further in her Internet search and found several blogs and websites that featured diverse alcohol dependency symptoms and warning signs.

One of the signs that really captured her attention was the following: “Do you typically drink after stating to yourself that you won’t?” While Daniel never came to grips with the fact that she may have a severe drinking issue, after reading about the various alcoholism symptoms and warning signs, she couldn’t reject the fact that for the past six or seven months, she frequently tried but failed at notably reducing her drinking or quitting entirely.

When Family Members Irritate You by Frowning on Your Abusive Drinking Behavior

Another alcohol dependency symptom that captured her awareness was the following: “Have family members irritated by condemning your problem drinking?” When Daniel read this she immediately recalled a recent argument she had with her closest friend about her abusive drinking. In addition, Daniel clearly recalled a recent quarrel she had with her parents about her hazardous drinking. Since Daniel sincerely believed that she didn’t have a drinking issue, when people pointed out her drinking she naturally got bothered and mad.

A third alcohol dependency symptom was the following: “Do you desire a drink when you first get up in the morning?” Until now, Daniel had been deceitful with herself about her drinking behavior. After reading about the aforementioned alcoholism warning symptoms, nevertheless, she knew if she was really frank with herself that she was facing a critical drinking difficulty, especially given the fact that she now believed that she required a drink the first thing when she woke up to diminish her constant worry.

If this wasn’t enough, the next alcohol addiction symptom really got her thinking about her drinking behavior: “Do you drink to keep away from worries or anxiety?” When she reflected on her life for a few moments, she grasped the fact that very nearly in every complicated circumstance in the past four or five months, she told herself that she needed a drink to help cope with things.

The final alcoholic symptom that made her feel rather apprehensive about her drinking behavior was the following: “Has your enthusiasm for life dropped off since you started drinking on a more normal basis?” When Daniel read this sign she noticeably realized that drinking had become a significant problem in her life because of her diminished energy level and also because she gave up pursuing her dreams and her passions.

Conclusion: When Getting Disheartened Turns Into Something Exhilarating and A Sense of Expectation

After reflecting on all of these damaging alcohol dependency symptoms and signs, Daniel at first felt glum. Then something wonderful came about. She reflected on the fact knew that she was going to see her physician about her problem drinking and she also reflected on the fact that that she would discuss all of the above alcohol dependency warning signs and symptoms with her. To be sure, for the first time in quite a few months, Daniel truthfully felt a sense of optimism because she was confronting her drinking concerns and was at long last ready to make the needed alterations so that she could re-establish the life that was drifting away.

Written by Announcement Author on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009 in Psychology and Personal Development.

If you are at the turning point in your life i.e you wish you could just start on a clean slate then words of encouragement for missing person can help you say forward ever, backward never.

There are millions of reasons why at times we feel the need to turn a new page in our lives.

1.    Losing someone special: There are also different losses in this category. For instance, You can lost a loved one through death, which is one of the hardest things to get over. I know someone who lost a someone dear to him sometime in 2007 and up until now he still keeps her images in his cellphone. Sometimes he cries for no apparent reason – I guess it’s when he misses her.

If you are trying to have a fresh start from such an ordeal then you need to really believe that you can and it okay to move on. Do not feel like you are neglecting her memory or simply forgetting about him or her. Let the past inspire you to face the future instead of having it hold you back.

2.    First day in a new job: free printable encouragement cards can also inspire someone who has just started a new job. Let me briefly share my own experience about my first day at work. I was so nervous I thought I would never get used to the place. It takes time to get used to a new office. Allow a few days to get used to the place before you give up on it. It will only be a matter of time before you become your own self again.

3.    New Area: if you have just moved into a new city I can only imagine how lonely you feel. The best way to get over being home sick or lonely is to try and find good things to excite you and laugh about. Get out of the house, go to the mall, watch some movies or find some encouraging words on the net. Either way, you will forget about where you are for a moment and by the time you come back to reality you will be too strong to be depressed.

He was informed on numerous occasions that there is not a cure for stammering however Steve just would not accept second best in life. He truly believes that there is only one way that a person should think, positively.

Steve eventually managed to overcome his stammer at the age of 22 after formulating his own fluency techniques.

Memory Improvement Techniques

The brain is capable of interpreting and recalling 100% of information daily, yet most people use 10% or less of the mind on an average. Researchers have discovered that the left and right side of the brain’s cortex works in complete harmony to gather information that has been learned in a single day and throughout that person’s lifetime.

This means we all have the ability to recall and remember things effectively by applying some memory improvement techniques.

Memory Improvement Techniques Explored

The first step to recalling and to improve your memory is to train the memory. Most people do not take time in their life to train the brain—rather it goes throughout their life without training. The first thing you need to do is understand how the brain works.

The left side of the brain helps you to form words, logic, numbers, sequences, linearity, analyze things and take full lists of information you gather. The right side of the brain enables you to produce rhythm, spatial alertness, discover the big picture, imagine things, daydream, and color and find dimensions.

With this ammunition in hand, it gives you power to train the mind so as to build the brains ability to recall and remember.

Next, you want to think about your brain as a whole. You have the unconscious mind, conscious mind, and the subliminal mind. What the conscious mind cannot handle due to lack of training the unconscious and subliminal mind tracks the information and stores it until you are triggered to recall. This means by finding associating photos, words, etc, you can remember what you learned effectively, since the brain looks for things that associate with what has been learned.

Thus, the best memory improvement techniques anyone can provide you are to make those connections with what you know and have learned.
