Tired of slow GPS Time to First Fix?

Written by Announcement Author on Wednesday, October 21st, 2009 in GPS.

Rx Networks Inc., a leading Assisted GPS (A-GPS) technology and global services company, today announced the availability of its GPStream™ Secure User Plane 1.0 Light Edition (SUPL 1.0 LE) data service. The solution allows any SUPL 1.0 A-GPS device to receive real time GPS assistance and rapidly determine its position even under weak signal conditions. The GPStream SUPL LE service provides cost effective and fast GPS Time-To-First-Fix performance for mobile handset manufacturers, Location Based Services providers and enterprise customers. Since SUPL LE access is enabled at manufacturing or initial deployment time, the mobile consumer can enjoy a high performance GPS experience right “out of the box.”

“GPStream SUPL LE is a lightweight service designed to simply respond to a terminal’s request for assistance and does away with network initiated features typically found in full-blown SUPL implementations in carrier networks,” said Dave Cayer, Vice President Marketing of Rx Networks. “This means that mobile terminal vendors and LBS providers can always deliver fast GPS start ups with the highest quality user experience even if mobile operators have not deployed a SUPL service or if their business requires operation across multiple operator networks.”

Rx Networks supports flexible business models and GPStream SUPL LE service can be licensed on a usage or a lifetime subscription basis. For customers seeking an end to end SUPL solution, Rx Networks also provides a proven SUPL 1.0 mobile client compatible with most mobile operating systems as part of its GPStream Mobile Suite GPS acceleration solutions.

New licensee for Rx Networks GPStream technology

Written by Announcement Author on Monday, September 21st, 2009 in GPS.

Vancouver, Canada – April 1, 2009; Rx Networks, Inc., today said that ST-Ericsson, a leader in mobile platforms and semiconductors, has licensed GPStream™ technology for use with their GPS solutions. GPStream™ technology enables GPS based mobile devices to calculate and retain predicted satellite position information. This makes satellite acquisitions very fast for a better user experience, and enables devices to operate in weaker signal environments. Overall improvements include: significantly reduced Time To First Fix (TTFF), lower power consumption and improved usability inside buildings.

“The ST-Ericsson GPS solution comes in an impressively small form factor with low power consumption,” said Guylain Roy-MacHabée, President and CEO of Rx Networks. “This provides a lot of flexibility when designing into area constrained platforms like mobile handsets.”

“Having the GPStream™ technology integrated into our GPS solutions makes commercial deployment simple for our customers,” said Nick Taluja, Head of Product marketing of ST-Ericsson, “this allows us to provide our customers with an industry leading portfolio of turnkey assisted GPS solutions.”

GPStream™ PGPS™ extended ephemeris feature enables the fastest possible TTFF by eliminating network overhead associated with real time network overhead associated with SUPL solutions. The solution uses miniscule 2Kbyte weekly downloads and is well suited for mobile handsets.

GPStream™ SAGPS™ does not require any network connectivity at all. Originally targeted at personal navigation devices, the solution has also found use in emerging markets where consumers like advanced handset products but are sensitive to recurring network service fees and roaming charges.

Cheap GPS

Written by Announcement Author on Tuesday, November 4th, 2008 in GPS.

To help people find their way around today’s technology has invented the gps system. This system is otherwise known as Global Positioning Satellite systems. The gps systems use the satellites which have been made to help with navigation, tracking and location coordinates. You are able to purchase various items which have included a gps system. As there is a wide range you may be able to find some cheap gps appliances to use.

This however means that you will need to see about the various features that are present in these devices. With a gps system you should be able to see the monitor interface clearly. Your new cheap gps interface should be able to provide you with easy to see clear maps. Also to modify from a section or feature of the map to another, the touch screen should be in very good operating condition.

The different gps systems will also have varying prices which are also dependent on the features which are embedded into the system. For the most part you should be able to find a cheap gps within the price range of about $100 to $400 USD. You may want to rethink things in the event that you think the price range is on the expensive side.

The newer gps systems which have many new and improved features come in the price bracket of $999.99 plus. At the high end of the cost scale you can even find gps systems up to - you may need to sit for this - $2,000.00 USD. Now when you look at these price comparisons you must admit that paying about $200 is better than the high price of $2,000.00.

Once you have gotten past this shock point we can proceed. You will need to do some shopping and choose the cheap gps model which has all of the features that are necessary for a gps. These features should be a low price, an excellent quality touch screen monitor, a visible and easy to read interface.

The street maps should also be clearly visible. The route you will take and your current position highlighted so that you can see them even in the darkness. The various street names, railway crossings, hospitals, and other venues of importance should be shown and stated well. The voice prompts which are part of the gps systems should be heard clearly even on a cheap gps.

As technology is meant to help us you should choose the items which will provide this help. While getting the brand new products that are available can show your status and prestige you will need to pay a substantial price. A cheap gps on the other hand can give you all of the help you require for a fraction of the price.
