Have we gone too far with all the spy equipment

Written by Announcement Author on Tuesday, November 17th, 2009 in Computers and Computing.

With all the Spy gadgets and spy equipment out there to buy, we have to ask the question of have we gone too far? Has the whole country become that paranoid that we need to spy on each other? The technology needed for these gadgets has become so small it can fit into lighters and pens, and much cheaper so most people could afford some of it. The spy gadgets havent gotten so cheap that we’re all buying it just to have fun with it, (we are in a recession) the price is low enough for some people with an idea of how to use it to buy it.

What is it about this gear that helps us out? So you need evidence of vandals destroying your property or a cheating partner this is they way to do it -recordings are proof enough in court. Businesses get the most use out of surveillance equipment -acting as a theft deterrent and recording evidence when something does happen.

But what about when the equipment is used for spying on someone? Well, it depends on how its being used, as how it is used could see a huge infringement on people’s privacy, and when is it to far? With all the spy gear that can now be bought, you can use gps tracking, phone spying software and hidden devices to follow anyone around for a day. So arent we taking this all over the top? We fear that our own government spies on us, but hasnt it gone to far when we start to suspect our family and friends? We have to be careful that in our efforts to protect ourselves, we dont end up becoming a ‘big brother’ state, where the only privacy we will have left, will be the inside of our heads. Awsome stuff I say

How to speed up your computer in less than 15 minutes?

Written by Announcement Author on Saturday, November 14th, 2009 in Computers and Computing.

This article covers simple steps that any user can follow to rapidly make any computer faster. Implementing step 1 or step 2 should take no more than 15 minutes and will work for both PC and Mac users.

Step 1 -  Clean the computer registry

Slow computers often have errors in their registry. The registry is similar to the nervous system of the computer and its function is to connect software hardware and computer files. Over time, errors occur and this slows down computers, frequently their registry become corrupted. A simple step is to locate then repair the errors in the registry. Despite the fact that it is possible to repair the registry manually in theory, this method is not recommended. The main reason for this, is that it requires strong knowledge of the structure of the registry as well as its functions. Using a registry cleaner software is a faster, more reliable option to eliminate errors, redundant files, incorrect links and deal with ActiveX components. Click on compare registry fix software for more information.

Step 2 – Delete and block adware and spyware

Another common reason leading to computers slowing-down, is the large number of spyware and adware, which are downloaded from the Internet, often without the users knowledge. Often, this takes place when peer to peer (P2P) networks are used to download videos and music for example. A straightforward solution to improve the speed of any computer is to use an anti spyware or adware program to scan, remove then block adware and spyware. It helps to test the relevant anti spyware or adware program by downloading a trial version as most of them are free. The main features to consider are Ease of Download and Simplicity of Use, Automatic Backup, Quality of Customer Service, and the overall effectiveness of the software. The best software tend to be the simplest to use and rely on a research capability that constantly updates the software for new threats. Click on best adware spyware removal for more information.

Step 3 – Eliminate viruses

Unsurprisingly many computer viruses can slow down computers and drive down response times. Computer viruses often damage files, can consume excessive amount of memory and take a large amount of space on the hard disk. Running the latest version of the best anti-virus programs will fix many of the problems which are detrimental to computer performance.

Step 4 – Simple housekeeping tasks

There are many simple housekeeping tasks which can be done to improve the speed of any computer, for example uninstalling any software that is not needed.  Another simple step to improve computer speed is to stop programs launching automatically. Marginal improvements usually result from these simple tasks.

Step 5 – Optimise the Hard disk

For hard disks which are smaller than 2GB then at least 200MB of disk should be kept free and at least 500MB for larger hard disks. The amount of free space on the hard drive is a key factor of performance as it is used by temporary files needed by software to run. This is also used for swapping files when the operating system needs to use virtual memory as it runs out of RAM. Unless sufficient space on the hard disk is availble, the system slows down significantly in that event. Disk scanning programs such as Scandisk for Windows help scan for errors on the hard disk itself. For instance the hard disk may be too fragmented and some of its sectors may be damaged, and this can create problems even if the hard drive is large enough. Defragmenting the hard disk is another action, which will improve the response time of any computer.

Step 6 – Optimising the RAM

Some programs are poorly designed and do not release RAM resources after they are closed. This reduces the amount of memory available for other programs. Computers frequently run out of RAM after a while. In order to overcome this, ugrading the RAM is probably necessary. Another free option is to avoid using some computer programs simultaneously.

Step 7 – Stop the computer from overheating

Faulty fans are a common cause leading to the computer overheating, slowing down then freezing as a result. To overcome this problem, replacing the fan is the most pragmatic solution. The effect should be immediate as this will increase the flow of air through the computer, thereby reducing the computer’s temperature and increasing its speed as a result.

Laptop Computer Reviews

Written by Announcement Author on Friday, October 30th, 2009 in Computers and Computing.

Laptop computer reviews represent a very important source of information for those who are interested in buying a new device meant either to help them in their work or to provide entertainment at home. But being an informed buyer is no easy task for anybody. Even though we may think we are informed enough, we may later discover that the assumed decision was not that correct. Or might that mistake have been made during the stage before the decision making itself? During research perhaps?

Read MORE laptop computer reviews before you are sure to have enough information. Why so much caution?

First of all, laptop computer reviews are put together by people paid to write dozens if not hundreds of reviews for online sites. Consequently, it could happen that similar information be used in more reviews even if the models under discussion are different. Or, she/he may end up leaving pieces of information out since mistake naturally occur when the writer is tired or bored.

one further reason why you should consult as many laptop computer reviews as possible is that this way you will surely come across reviews made by users of the product. These types of ratings and assessments are the ones that would most likely give you a realistic picture of how this device really works. Consumers will also have several aspects in mind that big company reviewers may exclude from their pieces of information. These types of laptop computer reviews will also give you a clue as to whether you are going for the right item or the model is too advanced. This allows one to identify the unnecessarily high-priced tools, or the too basic and therefore cheap and useless.

Last but not least, various laptop computer reviews, especially if made by web sites and consumers, will stand apart in the type of information you can gather about one computer type or another. The details left out by some laptop computer reviews, are present in others. Yet, the whole appreciation can never be completed until you actually own that computer; however, the more numerous the evaluations, the better the image of the puzzle.

All in all, remember that random choices and ignorance can ruin your budget not to mention the risk of buying a poor quality computer. See how many laptop computer reviews you can dissect before making up your mind, unless you have technical training and know exactly what you are looking for.

How to fix a slow computer in less than 15 minutes?

Written by Announcement Author on Wednesday, October 21st, 2009 in Computers and Computing.

This article covers simple steps that any user can follow to rapidly make any computer faster. PC or Mac users should be able to implement either of the first two steps in this article in less than 15 minutes.

Step 1 -  Clean the computer registry

Slow computers often have errors in their registry. The registry is comparable to a nervous system. Its main function is to connect software hardware and computer files. Over time the performance of any computer reduces as errors accumulate in the registry, which can also become corrupted. Locating then fixing errors in the registry is therefore frequently required. Cleaning the registry manually is possible but not recommended, as this method requires specific knowledge of the registry structure and its functions. Registry cleaner software are a faster, more reliable alternative to remove errors, unused file, poor links and deal with ActiveX components. Click on compare registry fix software for more information.

Step 2 – Delete and block adware and spyware

Another common reason leading to computers slowing-down, is the large number of spyware and adware, which are downloaded from the Internet, often without the users knowledge. This happens particularly often, when peer to peer networks are being used to download music and videos for example. One of the simplest solutions to improve any computer’s speed is to use an anti spyware or adware software to scan, remove and block these unwanted threats. Most anti spyware or adware software have a free trial version and it is worth using this first to try out the program. Among the key features to consider are Ease of Download and Simplicity of Use, Automatic Backup, Quality of Customer Service, and of course the overall effectiveness of the software. The best software tend to be the simplest to use and rely on a research capability that constantly updates the software for new threats. Click on best adware spyware removal for more information.

Step 3 – Eliminate viruses

Unsurprisingly many computer viruses can slow down computers and drive down response times. The problem with many viruses is not only the damage they cause to computer files but also the amount of resources which they use and waste, for example RAM and disk space.

These straightforward tasks generally deliver marginal improvements.

Step 5 – Optimise the Hard disk

For hard disks which are smaller than 2GB then at least 200MB of disk should be kept free and at least 500MB for larger hard disks. The amount of free space on the hard drive is a key factor of performance as it is used by temporary files needed by software to run. This also enables the operating system to swap files using the hard disk as it runs out of RAM. The system can slow down significantly in that event, if space on the hard disk is insufficient. Disk scanning programs such as Scandisk for Windows help scan for errors on the hard disk itself. For instance the hard disk may be too fragmented and some of its sectors may be damaged, and this can create problems even if the hard drive is large enough. Running a defragmentation program is another step that can be completed to improve  the speed of any computer.

Step 6 – Optimising the RAM

Some programs are poorly designed and do not release RAM resources after they are closed. Other programs have less memory to run as a result. Running out of RAM too fast is not uncommon and users who have this problem should consider upgrading the memory on their computer. Alternatively running certain programs simultaneously should also be avoided, this option is of course free.

Speed reading is one of the best skills a person can acquire: it makes life that much easier and can save a person great deal of time. No matter your reading skills, everyone can learn how to speed read books, magazines, newspapers, and things like directions. The key is to know where you stand with your reading and to practice. The following are some tips if you want to learn how to speed read books and want to save yourself a lot of time.

There Should Be Limited Distractions When You Are Going Through How to Speed Read Books

When learning how to speed read books, it is best to stay as focused as possible. In order to exercise or polish your newfound skill, you should practice in a room that has little to no distractions. Thus, the space should be one that has little to nothing on the walls. Additionally, the room should not have a stereo, television, or any other form of entertainment. It is good to remove cell phone or laptop from the room as they can create disturbance.

Focus Only on the Important Words

No matter how important the written piece is, there are bound to be words that you can pass over. This will end up saving you a lot of time when learning how to speed read books and other items. If you highlight only the most essential words in a piece of text, then your brain will soon learn to focus more strongly on things like nouns versus such filler words as conjunctions and articles.

Use Guides

If you want to learn how to speed read books, then you need to keep your eyes and mind focused on the task at hand. One easy way to pick up this skill while practicing is to use your fingers as a guide. This will help you not only focus on the text and on reading but will limit distractions (i.e. you aren’t going to miss your position).

Similarly, one of the most common ways to learn how to speed read books and other items is to keep yourself from reading out loud or rereading items. We all do this, especially if we’re having trouble comprehending a passage. One way to stop yourself from rereading a piece of writing is to cover words once you have read them with such household items as a ruler or even just another sheet of paper. To keep yourself from mouthing the words you read or saying them out loud, try humming while you read. This will keep you from reading out loud and will help your mind focus on reading as efficiently as possible. These above techniques are sure to teach you how to speed read books and other items in no time at all.
